A flag raised in freedom's name
The small town of Moirang, about 45 km south-west of Imphal, holds an outsized place in India's freedom story. On 14 April 1944, during the darkest days of the Second World War, the Indian National Army (INA) under Subhas Chandra Bose raised the Indian tricolour here — the first time it flew on Indian soil in the struggle for independence.
The INA Memorial complex honours that moment and the soldiers of the INA. It's a place of quiet national pride, set in a peaceful, well-kept compound.
Moirang is also the gateway to the Loktak Lake circuit, which makes it a natural stop on the classic day trip from Imphal.

Walk the grounds, see the memorial arch and the flag, and read the plaques that tell the story of the INA's campaign through Manipur.
The lakefront
Moirang sits beside the waters of Loktak Lake. The lakeside offers a peaceful glimpse of local life before you continue to Sendra or the floating park.
