A hill that remembers
About 10 km from Imphal, the hill of Maibam Lotpa Ching — known as Red Hill — was the scene of some of the most intense fighting of the Battle of Imphal in 1944. Japanese and Allied forces clashed here for weeks in a struggle that would help decide the course of the war in Asia.
Today the hilltop is crowned by the India Peace Memorial, a striking structure built as a symbol of reconciliation and peace. It's a place of quiet reflection with sweeping views over the valley — a poignant reminder of how much was at stake on these slopes.
